All You Need To Know About Interior Design

maximios March 2, 2017

Interior designing, a very familiar term to almost everyone of us. But what exactly is it? Not everyone knows that interior designing is much more than adding an aesthetic value to our homes, rather, it is more about creating a right balance of functionality and beauty to create a space worth living in.

Interior designing is a key to creating a house which reflects upon your lifestyle and taste and gives an edge to your house.  It can make any space look fabulous. It is an art of putting together different elements together in a way that space looks cohesive and beautiful. Some people are born with an eye to decorate and design whereas some achieve this skill with their interest and learning over time. From staircases to hallways, a beautiful house is created when all its cards are linked at right joineries.Interior designing isn’t any rocket science but, it is not even everyone’s cup of coffee. This coffee can be brewed properly only when the right proportion of ingredients are added to it, otherwise, you never know, it might end up with a bad taste.

So, when we start with this thought of creating a house that not only is appealing to the eyes  but also, works well with us, there are few principles which needs to be kept in mind ,which are:

1. Function:

More than anything, the function of the room while designing it becomes the food for our thought. Further, there are certain elements attached to it.

  • Deciding on the focal point: A room’s focal point is its most emphasised feature. It is the point which attracts our visual senses the most and at once. Our eyes tend to get attracted towards it, for eg., a fireplace, a beautiful window or anything. It also depends on the purpose for which the room will be used. Everything around the focal point compliments it and therefore, our space automatically draws our attention towards it.
  • Furniture: The next thing which comes into play is the furniture and its arrangement. The kind of furniture used, the way it is arranged, is it too large or too small, whether the material suits the function or not, all these things need to be taken into consideration, depending upon the utility of the room.
  • Lighting: Master card if we may say so, lighting acts as the trump card which can prove as an asset for a space. The right kind of lighting can work wonders for any room . The texture, colour, pattern, everything gets emphasised only with the appropriate lighting. After all, lighting itself demands the right burner.

2. Mood:

The mood of the room is created by the choice of colours and patterns . The feeling you want to experience in a room can be created by deciding upon the theme and thus, making it look interesting and more fun.

  • Colours: The colours of a room is the first thing to get noticed when we enter, and it plays a major role in the whole look of the room . Generally, it is good to choose three colours for the room, a dominant colour for the walls, carpeting and fabric backgrounds; a secondary colours to be used throughout the room for the fabric backgrounds and an accent colour which adds the oomph factor to the room, brings in energy and break away the monotony of the room.
  • Theme: To decide on the theme for a room, taking into consideration the inspiration of your room and the way you would like the room to look like based on your mood becomes the next important thing.

Also, creating a balance among different parts is very important. The theme along with the choice of colours will define the mood of the room, which therefore will define the ambience of the room/house. Along, with balance, keeping the right proportions of furniture and home decor accessories, is another very important aspect which needs to be taken care of while designing the interiors.

3. Personality:

Now, that’s where you can make a milestone of your own and mark your own territory when it comes to designing your house. This is the part when you can go as crazy while experimenting and unravel your creative journey to build a house worth living in. Undoubtedly, the theme of space should be taken into consideration while accessorizing your space, cushions, show pieces, curtains, tables, flower vases and whatever you feel like, should work in harmony with the theme of the room and complement its look.

Though, this gives us the freedom to explore and bring out our taste while creating a space of our choice and reflects upon our personality but, the catch is that it might end up in a big blunder if things are not arranged in a proper manner.

‘Sometimes less is more’, this term works well in this case. It’s important for us to understand the negative space and make sure it serves a purpose.

Also, accents ion this case can work wonders for your house. A brightly painted ceiling, or one textured wall amongst all other plain pastel walls , or may be in that case, wallpapers, which are in vogue , might break the monotony and bring that oomph factor to your house.

These few basic principles when hit the right cord , can make you have a beautiful place at your disposal.

Like is said before, Interior designing is not any rocket science, it’s an art which doesn’t require a lot of hard work or practise, all you need is to know what you want and what you are looking for, or if i may say so, you should have an eye for interior designing which holds in accountancy with basis of designing, aesthetic sense and the feeling not just to create a room or a house but to design and experience a heavenly feeling on earth.
