China’s largest solar plant, Gobi Desert – Go Smart Bricks
Gobi desert, Qinghai province, is coming up with China’s largest solar power plant spread across 2,550 hectors with 220MW capacity. The solar power plant will help China eventually reduce the usage of coal by about 42.60 tonnes annually, and bring down carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide emissions. The plant is expected to provide 10lac households clean energy. It can store heat up to 15 hours and provide uninterrupted power.
Set to be the largest solar power producing plant in China for commercial purposes, the plant will use solar power tower system which is more efficient in energy storage, compared to the traditional trough system. China’s solar power capacity has increased by about 28.05GW during the last 10 years and China aims to reach 100 GW by 2020.
