The Centre Government on Jan 28, 2015, announced the list of first 20 cities that are to be developed into Smart Cities of India. Bhuneshawar tops the list, followed by Pune, Jaipur, Surat & Kochi

“The states selected cities and sent us a list of 97 names. There was a competition among these names and 20 cities have been selected. Bottom-up approach has been the key planning principle under Smart City Mission.
